Democrats swept the four special elections across New York on Tuesday, February 3. In Manhattan, City Councilmember Erik Bottcher captured 92% of the vote to fill the West Side Senate seat previously held by Brad Hoylman-Sigal. Meanwhile, on the East Side, former Councilmember Keith Powers won the election to fill former Assemblymember Harvey Epstein’s seat with 82%.
In Queens, Diana Moreno scored a decisive victory in the race to succeed Mayor Zohran Mamdani in the State Assembly, winning with 74%. Moreno is a member of the New York City Democratic Socialists of America and was endorsed by Mayor Mamdani. Her win marked the first electoral victory of the 2026 cycle for Mamdani and NYC-DSA, underscoring their growing influence in city and state politics.
Traveling upstate to Buffalo, Erie County Democratic Party chair Jeremy Zellner prevailed with 60% of the vote in a race to succeed Mayor Sean Ryan.
